The Scottish Cities Alliance is a collaboration of Scotland’s seven cities and the Scottish Government working together to attract external investment, stimulate economic activity and create new jobs and business opportunities.

The Alliance believes that it will be better positioned to deliver on its aims and objectives if the UK remains an EU member. EU membership is key to Scotland’s attractiveness for infrastructure investment, talent, research and innovation which sit at the heart of the Alliance’s work programme.

Membership of the EU gives Scotland access to:-

  • A single market of 500 million customers, which supports thousands of jobs in Scotland through the free movement of goods, capital, services and people reducing regulatory barriers and developing common standards
  • €572 million of research and innovation funding for Scottish Universities between 2007 and 2014
  • Influencing the EU Agenda from within and use of its networks to pursue progressive solutions to Scottish challenges with like-minded nations
  • €1.9 billion funding package for Scotland to deliver sustainable economic growth for all in Scotland

The Alliance recognises the importance of learning from others and sharing experience and best practice across Europe. Its relationships and partnerships with EU cities, institutions and networks helps to develop and deliver on shared objectives, policies and programmes and enhance Scotland’s reputation and attractiveness.
